Just Enough?

“… they asked Him saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:6-8
After everything they had seen and heard. After all the teaching and discipleship Jesus had poured into their lives, the disciples still defaulted back to what they were taught from childhood — that Jesus had come to restore the kingdom to Israel.
It’s easy to shake our heads and wonder why they still didn’t get it, but truth be told, you and I can fall into this same earthly mindset… that it’s about our general happiness and wellbeing. We can look at the state of our country… the world around us… our heritage… and begin to believe Satan’s lie that it’s about making things “right.” That it’s about what we would define as “fair.”
But Jesus did not come to make the world right with us and give us a happy, carefree life. He came to make us right with God and give us eternal life.
Our joy, our purpose, our ability to live an abundant life here in the midst of the chaos of this fallen world, can only be found in Him and living fully for Him.
He knew we would need help with the task assigned to us, so He gave us the amazing gift of His Spirit. He doesn’t simply give us access to “just enough” power when we reach the point that we can’t do it on our own. His power — the same power that raised Jesus from the grave — resides in us as born again believers in Jesus Christ.
How often do we stop to think about that?
How often do we allow Satan to make us feel powerless in the midst of our days?
How often do we default back to what we have been taught since childhood …that we can do it in our own power… that we are strong, independent, self sufficient adults who don’t need help… instead of acknowledging our need for Him and accessing HIS power?
Far too many of us live our days yearning for “just enough,” when God has given us all we could ever need and more.
He knew we would need His presence and power — and He didn’t simply give us “just enough” to face our days. He gave us more than enough to be witnesses for Him wherever we are, wherever we go, no matter the circumstances we face.
Jesus also reminds us that God alone is in control of the times and seasons of everything, including each one of our lives. We can rest in His sovereignty and find the peace we seek for our days by resting in the truth that He is in control of it all and He has already given us everything we need to live for Him —
and that truly is enough.
